Insidious Injustice Challenge
Welcome to another Genealogy Matters Challenge!
Each week, Genealogy Matters publishes a challenge for anyone interested in family history called Storyteller Tuesday Challenge.
Prompt:
INSIDIOUS INJUSTICE - Tell about an ancestor who experienced an injustice that impacted your family. They may have been subjected to the injustice or were the antagonist of that story. This might be a tough one, but bringing truth to light is key. Sharing these kinds of stories can be difficult. Reading them can be illuminating.
Every family has stories that carry pain—moments where someone was treated unfairly or perhaps was the one who caused harm. This prompt invites you to explore those quieter, harder truths: a wrongful accusation, systemic discrimination, a betrayal within a community or family, or even a silence that lasted generations.
Your ancestor might have been the victim, struggling against an unjust system or personal mistreatment. Or they might have been the one who caused or upheld that injustice. Either way, telling the story with honesty, care, and context can reveal deeper insights about your family’s history and the world they lived in.
Writing about injustice isn’t easy. But it’s how we understand what shaped us—and how we ensure those stories aren’t forgotten.
Genealogy Matters Storyteller Tuesday Challenge: INSIDIOUS INJUSTICE
Due by July 15, 2025
Oh boy!!! I intend to work on a blog about my Salem witch grandma, Rebecca Nurse, who was hung. As was her sister. Another sister and ANOTHER grandmother were also accused, but were released when the presiding govt decided shit had gone too far. Maybe because the gov wife was also accused....?
