Prompt:
HEAVY HEART - Find an ancestor who had their heart broken in some way. Tell their story using your creativity, while anchoring it in your research—You can add a disclosure letting your readers know that this account of their story comes from research plus imagination.
The HEAVY HEART prompt invites you to explore the emotional side of your ancestor’s story—specifically, a moment of heartbreak. This could be the loss of a loved one, an abandoned dream, a broken relationship, or any event that weighed heavily on their heart. Use your genealogical research as a foundation, then allow your imagination to gently fill in the emotional gaps. Be thoughtful and creative as you reconstruct what might have been going on in their inner world.
Because this prompt blends fact and creative interpretation, be sure to include a brief disclosure to your readers. If you’re wondering how you might do this, you can add a footnote (found in the “More” dropdown) stating that the story is based on historical records and informed imagination.
