MENNONITE DAUGHTER: THE STORY OF A PLAIN GIRL
By Marian L Beaman
This title is the story of my experience as a Mennonite girl in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It contains two family trees, recipes, and charts my path to a larger life. ~
ONLY A FEW BONES
By John Philip Colletta
This is an excellent example of methodology, going from a family legend, through censuses, newspaper accounts, books, court records, city directories, cemetery research, vital records and more to piece together in considerable detail the story behind the family legend. It is an engrossing tale, and a wonderful well-documented example of genealogical research. ~
LIGHTNING DOWN: A WORLD WAR II STORY OF SURVIVAL
By Tom Clavin
A fascinating read that contains multiple present day insights from the pilot who survived some very brutal treatment. Some details are deeply disturbing, but I believe we all need to know the real facts as told by someone who was there. The book contains a great weaving of the storyline from multiple perspectives and is well researched from outside sources. It ends well and beautifully. I gained knowledge to imagine the possible experiences of my POW uncle, who did not tell many stories or details. The gentle and kind spirit of this American hero shines through. ~
LIAR, TEMPTRESS, SOLDIER, SPY: FOUR WOMEN UNDERCOVER IN THE CIVIL WAR
By Karen Abbott
While these women were outliers, it gives us a glimpse into how women behaved and were treated at the time. ~
